Schenker has opened a new logistics operation in Ballarat in country
Victoria.

The warehouse was set up to supply inbound logistics for the specific
requirements for our Melbourne customer Alstom Australia. Alstoms
builds in Ballarat
train for the city traffic in Melbourne.
Schenker Australia has put in place unique logistics services far beyond
our standard import and export processes. Highly specilised operations like
pre-kitting manufacturing components for the production line.
The pieces in the photo is an 11m long wiring harness which is mounted under
the train car and contains all electric wires that are required for the train
to operate. Schenker's role is unpack the wiring from its crate and place
it on the table before it is delivered to the production line in a Just In
Time service.
Schenker Australia in combination with Schenker France also follow up with
the supplier to to this project in Europe. It is Schenker's responsibility
to make sure that the goods from overseas arrive on time and in full at Logistics
platform in Ballarat. Schenker Australia and Alstom Australia are working
hand in hand to keep the production line running to it full capacity.
Another highly sophisticated service is the supply of all consumable to the
different stages of the production line. Schenker Australia manages a specially
designed 2 Bin System at the manufacturing line at Alstom. Our responsibility
is to set up the system, supply the goods and
monitor the usage of parts.
